The summer is flying by ó itís just crazy that itís already July. Many say the summer ends after the Fourth of July; however, based on Colorado weather, July means summer has just begun!July is also National Ice Cream Month, designated by President Ronald Reagan in 1984. The third Sunday of July is National Ice Cream Day, and this year, it falls on July 20. Ice cream is one thing the majority of American can agree on: itís good! According to the International Dairy Foods Association, the ice cream industry generated $10 billion in 2010 in the U.S. and accounts for 9 percent of all the milk production.Ice cream is good business, too. The IDFA states that the majority of ice cream and frozen dessert manufacturers have been in business more than 50 years, and many are still family owned. A 2012 survey of member companies of the National Ice Cream Association showed that vanilla ice cream is the most popular among their consumers. Chocolate chip mint is the second favorite. If one of our rumors is true, we hope they arrive while the weather is still hot.Speaking of rumors, we get those rumors from residents and business people in the Falcon community. And some rumors come to us direct from a company planning or wanting to set up shop in Falcon. It doesnít always happen, though, and that is why we call it ìrumors.îOur front page feature this month is about the fire code: Are the county commissioners blowing smoke and/or fueling the desires of the housing and building association? Itís just too hard not to side with the firefighters ó the ones who actually know whatís best when it comes to mitigation and fighting fires. Read Lindsey Harrisonís article on the fire code. Jason Grayís article on the role and responsibilities of county commissioners complements Lindseyís article. Also this month, Lara Freeman and Lindsey update us on the real estate market in Falcon and Black Forest. As usual, Kathy Hare offers an interesting peek inside a Pulitzer Prize winning novel, and Angie Morlanís Face to Face is about a manís passion for golf. If you are looking for summer get-a-ways, check out Alli Griffinís travel article.Although my summer is busy (especially with planning yet another wedding), I am going to make sure I take time out for gardening and long walks ó and ice cream. Have a great July!See you in August.ó Michelle
