While I was researching women in history – March is womenís history month – I ran across some interesting facts about womenís influence in todayís world – history in the making.Did you know?
- Female baby boomers (born between 1946 and 1964) are more financially empowered than any previous generation of women.
- Senior women age 50 and older control net worth of $19 trillion and own more than three-fourths of the nationís financial wealth.
- Age 50-plus American women are the healthiest, wealthiest and most active generation in history.
- The number of wealthy women investors in the U.S. is growing at a faster rate than men. In a two-year period, the number of wealthy women in the U.S. grew 68 percent, as opposed to 36 percent for men.
- Only 3 percent of all advertising agency creative directors are female.
Given my background in sales and advertising, I thought the latter statistic was interesting. Will we ever catch up in the workforce? On another note, “in like a lion, and out like a lamb” is the March mantra. Well, if the snow (8 plus inches as I write this) continues, Iíll be hoping for a mild end to winter.March 17 is almost as big of a holiday as Thanksgiving. St. Patrickís Day brings the Irish out in all of us, and to some that means simply wearing green and eating corn beef and cabbage; to others, it means a lot of green beer, Guinness and Bushmills! In our March issue, we have addressed the countyís stance on gun control issues and the countyís directive on marijuana. Let us know what you think about it.In keeping with our 10th anniversary theme, we have featured Pastor Pat Jeffrey of Grace Community Church in our Face to Face column by Angie Morlan. Pat has been instrumental in bringing Falconís spiritual community together, and heís been an avid supporter of the community as a whole, including the NFH.We are also trying to track a few potential housing developments in Falcon. Weíll report what weíve got as we get it ñ and we are definitely out there looking for it!Last but not least, Kathy Hare has a new grandson. See photo below. Kathy just returned from Arizona, where the new arrival and his family reside. A new baby is like a new season! And I love March ñ a prelude to a new season; a teaser for spring! Have a great month! See you in April.
