What is it – in like a lion, out like a lamb? That tagline may have something to do with March winds, but on the eastern plains every month is about wind, right? Whatever, welcome to March, also famous for St. Patty’s Day and the first day of spring. The NFH is celebrating a bit of the blarney with a feature on Irish archeology and a piece on the history behind St. Patty’s Day.With spring lurking around the corner, March also is a time when people are taking vacations (spring break) or thinking about them. So, we’ve included a couple of travel articles this month as well. You’ll find an interesting piece in “Letters to the Editor” by Joe Cole, D 49 community relations coordinator. Joe brings up some great points, as he challenges the community to seek information about the school district from sources other than the newspaper or the news media in general. Joe invites residents and parents to call him regarding school district issues. Joe, as a former journalist, mentions the bias that often comes between the “hard news” and what’s printed or said on television or radio. To take Joe’s challenge a bit further, it’s important to get your local and national news from a variety of sources, too. If you are an avid Fox newshound, switch to CNN a few times. You’ll get different viewpoints for sure, but if you are smart about it, you might come up with balance. Change your radio dial to National Public Radio once in a while – it’s not all that liberal, at least in this market. Whether it’s the Gazette or the Rocky Mountain News, remember there is a certain flavor (as newspaper publishers, we won’t use bias) to all newspapers or broadcasts. Of course, read your New Falcon Herald for the most comprehensive and unbiased news and features! On another note: For those of you wondering how we choose the subject of our Limelight feature, it was first based on businesses that existed pre-Safeway. Today, we are trying to focus on storefronts, mixing in home-based businesses on occasion. We no longer choose based on opening dates because many new businesses cropped up around the same time. And let us make this clear: Limelight is NOT, and never will be, as long as we are the publishers, based on businesses that advertise with us.OK, one more thing: Thanks again to our subscriber patrons for their support and patience. We’re getting it together.Have a great March. Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Happy Spring, too.– Michelle & Marylou
