Jan. 1, 2006: The NFH celebrates two years. Whew!Ah, the growing pains. We took a big step for 2006 as we go to subscription and newsstand only, and we held our breath hoping we would retain at least 300 of our direct-mail customers. We beat that figure by a landslide, and we are happy and proud to welcome our new subscribers. And some of you requested that your information remain safe with us, and it will. We do not release or sell names to anyone. Thanks again for the great response. From a four-page newsletter to a 48-page newspaper, we have experienced the excitement (and pain) of growth. And we’ve learned plenty about what it takes to keep a business rolling. Now we’re learning what it takes to keep it growing, as we try to keep up with a burgeoning community. We know we have to increase the frequency of the newspaper, and we are working on it.For now …We heard from one of our readers that our new cartoon, Falcon Fran, may be a bit one-sided. Well, it’s a cartoon, and it might take on an issue and slant it one way or another. Falcon Fran is a long-time resident of Falcon, and she has her opinions. If you disagree with Falcon Fran, please rebut her comments through a letter to the editor. Bring on the other side! Falcon Fran does not reflect the opinions of the NFH. (By the way, would that reader please give us a call? Your business card escaped.)Meanwhile, we have finally picked up a sports page. We’re trying to cover a variety of school-related sports events. Our new writer/photographer, David Verdu, has been coaching for 20 years plus. He is a D 49 coach so he has the inside scoop, but remember we are monthly so some of the sports news may be scores only, since you will have already read all about it in the daily or weekly newspapers. We switched our accounting system, and some of our advertisers received invoices that had been previously paid. We apologize for the inconvenience. Finally, if you sent in a subscription card and you did not receive this newspaper (and you happen to be reading this because you picked up the paper elsewhere), please call and let us know (683-7292). And it’s not too late to get in on our $10 subscription rate – just fill out the information in this month’s subscription ad, send it in or call and we’ll get you started. Remember the Web site, too: www.newfalconherald.com.We hope you enjoy our focus this month on health and wellness. It’s a time to rejuvenate and restore.Happy New Year,-Michelle & Marylou
