FROM THE PUBLISHER

The first Saturday of May is recognized as Wildfire Preparedness Day, and

over the past couple of months, the NFH has published a few articles on fire mitigation techniques. This month, El Paso County Health Public Health has expanded on being prepared for wildfires. Also, Mark Stoller in Mark’s Meanderings provides us with various tips on safety and wildfires. Of course, the Falcon Fire Protection District and Black Forest Fire Rescue offer plentiful information on wildfire season, which seems to be getting longer.

Colorado faces a unique fire-safety landscape — high-altitude dry conditions, frequent drought and seasonal winds increase wildfire risk — so preparedness is essential.

Bill Radford touches on the subject of drought and early season warm temperatures and the impact on bees, birds, bugs, flies and flowers. Whether it’s climate change or cyclical change wreaking havoc on Earth, as Bob Dylan would say, “The Times They Are A-Changin.”

Also, it was brought to our attention by one of our own team members that we made a mistake in the last two issues in “From the publisher.” In the March issue, we had the incorrect date for the start of Daylight Saving Time. The correct date was March 8. I hope all of you have changed your clocks by now. In April, we had the wrong date for Easter! And we definitely hope that no one missed Easter Sunday because of our slip-up!

Happy Mother’s Day to everyone! And Happy Cinco de Mayo!

See you in June!
