Sometimes you just need to change things up a bit. I think.Every month, I stew about writing this ìcolumn.î What should I say? Do people care what I say? Do readers even look at what we refer to as FTP (from the publisher)? We like to engage our readers and social media followers, but Iím not sure how to do that anymore. We recently sent out a request on social media ó Facebook and NextDoor ó asking our readers for feedback on the contents of the newspaper. Thank you to those who responded ó all six of you. So, if any of you who do read this column want to provide feedback to us about our little newspaper, please email us.We also sent out an inquiry that addressed random odors in the Falcon area. A couple of people have contacted us and asked us to look into a rather foul odor they experience almost daily in Falcon, and we wanted to know if there were others affected by unpleasant odors. Thank you to the four people who responded. They all blamed the odors on the Woodmen Hills Wastewater Treatment Plant; however, when we contacted Woodmen Hills, they insisted that the plant is not the cause. If anyone else has been aware of strange smells in the community, please email us.So, Thanksgiving is just around the corner ó first, though, donít forget to change your clocks, and please vote on Nov. 8! Just for the heck of it, I looked up things to write about that are unique to November or Thanksgiving. I found these fun sayings. ìNot what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our Thanksgiving (W.T. Purkiser). ìAn optimist is a person who starts a new diet on Thanksgiving Day.î And my favorite, ìGood mashed potatoes are one of the great luxuries of life.îSpeaking of food, here is an idea I came up with today. Usually, our December issue runs with lighter content. People are busy and have left politics and issues behind for joys of the Christmas season. So, why donít you send us your favorite holiday recipe? Weíll just have a paper full of recipes. Just kidding ó but we will have a special section full of recipes!Email us with your recipes and all your thoughts on my ramblings above at michelle@barrettegraphics.com or marylounfh@gmail.com.Iíd like to welcome a new writer, Kay Rowe. Kay wrote a story for this issue on winterizing your cars, homes, etc.; Kay has a background in writing and she is a great addition to our team.On this Thanksgiving, I am thankful for my family, of course. And I am so grateful for the NFH team: our writers, our staff columnists (Bill, Mark and Robin) and our volunteer columnists, Terry Stokka and Dr. Jim Humphries (who is currently on a back injury related hiatus). That team also includes our designer, sales rep and our editor and my daughter, who handles social media. Thank you all!And thank you to our veterans for their service.See you in December. (Send in those recipes.)Happy Thanksgiving & Happy Veterans Day– Michelle
