Welcome to spring and the April edition of the New Falcon Herald. It’s almost time for miller season, and we are not talking libations. Next month, we’ll rerun an article we featured last year about how to mitigate those annoying miller moths. Meanwhile, with miller season comes warm weather, so we won’t complain too much. Here are a few spring cleaning items we would like to mention this month. We continue to intercept comments about whether the NFH should go to a subscription-only mailing process. We want to clear up any misunderstandings about our distribution methods. We are not AT ALL thinking of charging for the newspaper if you pick it up from our distribution points. We only thought about charging for our mailing costs, since we mail out 3,300 NFH copies to our originally designated areas of Falcon at no cost. As we mentioned last month, we are not changing that process at this time. Our total circulation is now at 4,500. Although 3,300 are mailed at no cost, 50 subscribers who live outside the area receive the NFH and another 1,200-plus are picked up at our distribution points. Again, our paper is free at those distribution points. Let us reiterate to our friends who receive the paper in the mail at no cost: You were included on our original mailing list when the NFH was a mere four-page newsletter. We, of course, had visions that our newsLETTER might grow to six or eight pages, but we didn’t have a clue we would be at 44 pages within one year. We are thankful for this opportunity, so like Falcon itself, we are “going with the flow” … of growth. On another note, our Web site is growing, too. Our designer and Web maintenance person, Kathy Wallace, tells us we will be able to include updates all month long, so in a couple of months, we’ll be able to include brief notes on our Web site about what’s happening as it is happening. If you are interested in back issues, we will soon have an NFH Web subscriber program available. For a nominal fee, yet to be determined, you can get all your news from the Web and search the archives as well. Kathy is working on that right now, and we should know costs and details next month. That’s it for now. Keep those suggestions and ideas coming. A couple articles this month on comparing small towns that have incorporated are the result of requests for information from our readers. We have a few other articles in the works that have been requested. So please e-mail us, send a letter to our address or call and leave a message. As we always say, it’s YOUR newspaper. And welcome to new freelance writer, Angie Morlan, whose past credits include newspaper writing and editing in Houston and copywriting and production in television. That’s it for this month.Happy Spring!-Michelle and MarylouCORRECTIONS: In the February issue of the NFH, we referred to Levi Heidrich, a managing partner of Colorado Tree Farm Nursery, in our gardening article as she. Levi is a he, and that gender blunder is Marylou’s (the co-publisher and editor) fault, so our apologies to writer Cathy Griffen and to Levi!In addition, a call from our district county commissioner, Douglas Bruce, alerted us to a mistake in our News Briefs section. We referenced the information from the county on new developments and plans as “approved by county commissioners.” Actually, the developments and plans that we referenced in our last edition had not been approved by county commissioners – they’d been approved by county planners. Sorry for the confusion.Remember to visit our Web site at www.newfalconherald.com.The New Falcon Herald owns all written material in this publication. We reserve the right to refuse advertisements. We are now offering subscriptions for those residents who are not included in our direct-mail zone. Our subscription price of $18 per year covers postage costs. Call 229-2970 or 484-0384 to order your subscription.
