Lindsey Harrison has written our fifth article in a series on problematic/dangerous intersections in the Falcon and Black Forest areas. It appears that the problem is the human driver. According to Colorado State Patrol statistics, failure to yield right-of-way and inattentive driving were the leading causes of accidents in all five of the intersections Lindsey has covered.According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 2 percent of accidents were caused by the environment (ice, rain, etc.). Vehicles caused another 2 percent of accidents; 2 percent were unknown causes ó and 94 percent were caused by human error. If only people would pay attention and follow the signs and the laws of the road. Although these intersections weíre addressing do need updating and repairs, we canít totally blame the county for the mistakes of drivers. We still have intersections to cover, so the series wonít be ending soon. Also this month, Lindsey answered some questions that have come up about the roles of the county planning commission and the county commissioners when making decisions about developments and land usage. Be sure to read her front page article. And since the newspaper is on the stands after the Fourth of July, we decided to make our front page photo about the festivities that took place in Falcon. Thanks to Cara Lord-Geiser for covering the Fourth celebration for us.The school board has voted on the ìlegal identityî of the school district: El Paso County Colorado School District 49.On that note, I am signing off. We need more space this month for all the informative articles we have included in this issue so Iím sacrificing my space! We also sacrificed the book review because we have the restaurant review. We will be back with the book review in August.I am hoping you have a fun and safe July ó the summer is flying by. And weíll see you in August.– Michelle
