“Live in the moment” and “take one day at a time” – both are pearls of wisdom often said to remind us to slow down and take each day as it comes. Those words may not always be easy to live by, though – especially when there are upcoming events to anticipate. Many of these events will happen in Falcon and eastern El Paso County communities in the coming year.Bookworms, computer junkies and research hounds rejoice – you will soon have a place to gather. In 2010, Falcon will be home to a new public library. The Pikes Peak Library District hosted a groundbreaking ceremony in November. Kathleen Wallace provides details about plans for the new facility and when it is expected to open.In this issue of The New Falcon Herald, Vince McConnell resumes his sports column: Vinnie Mac Sports Corner. Vince will cover the Falcon High School boys’ basketball season. Welcome back Vince! Also, sports writer Tiffany Brewer covers additional D 49 winter sports, and the FHS varsity football team’s season and status in the state playoffs.Looking to the new year, Americans will be counted for the 2010 census. Kathleen writes about the process and circumstances that could put us in danger of having our identity stolen. Read about tactics used to steal an identity during the census period and safeguards we can follow to avoid becoming a victim.The Eastern Plains Chamber of Commerce will go through a transition in the coming months. New board officers have been appointed and additional board seats will become vacant in 2010. Read Natalie Gowen’s article about these changes and upcoming chamber events.So many things to look forward to.
