From the NFH Team

We’ve got some “good stuff” in this issue of the NFH. The El Paso County Department of Health and Environment is revealing its new “reality competition.” It’s all about emergency preparedness. Read Rosemary Bakes-Martin’s monthly column in the health and wellness section. Also, Kathy Hare’s Wild Hare column will make you think about Colorado water issues, and Tom Preble, in his column – Prairie Tales, is pining away about water issues – rain, that is.The Falcon/Peyton Small Area Master Plan committee is in full swing, and Kathleen Wallace will be covering those meetings for the NFH and writing about the committee’s progress. The meetings are open to the public. You, too, can have a voice in the future of your community.NFH writer Becky Weis will be covering the FAIR (Falcon Area Issues Roundtable) meetings. Becky lives in Falcon, so she’ll be participating as well.If you want to speak out about your desires for the Falcon community, there’s no better time. Between the planning committee and FAIR, there is ample opportunity to provide input on the future of Falcon’s landscape. Getting involved also means meeting new people and taking part in “community.”The seniors in Falcon have led the way in establishing a sense of community. Bev and Nick Ordon were instrumental in rallying the senior community. It takes a few dedicated people to get things going, but community embraces everyone. Don’t be shy – get out there! And please remember the NFH is your voice, too. Don’t be shy about contacting us.On a somber note, we’d like to express our sympathies to 11-year Falcon resident Elmer Hess, who lost his wife Anna in a tragic ATV accident in early July. We’re sorry for your loss. Our next issue hits the stands Aug. 4. We’ll be featuring a back-to-school section. And plenty more!Meanwhile, thanks for reading the NFH. We hope you enjoy this issue.– Michelle, Marylou and the team
