Oct. 10 is “Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day” in El Paso County.The National Society of Professional Engineers established this day and it was declared a national day of recognition by the Federal Highway Administration. It’s designed to raise awareness of the number of traffic fatalities that occur annually. The hope is that everyone will take this day to focus on their own individual behavior when using the roadways.The El Paso County Department of Transportation will be placing message boards at the intersection of Woodmen Road and Powers Boulevard, and at the intersection of Powers Blvd. and Constitution Avenue. The boards will flash the following: Drive as if your life depends on it.
