Friends of Falcon held a meeting Jan. 25 at Falcon Fire District Station There were fifteen people in attendance.
Don Koveleski, president of the Exchange Club of Falcon, talked about the organization’s upcoming Murder Mystery Fundraiser on Feb. 15 (see community calendar).
FoF president Kevin Curry spoke about organizing a community gathering of local organizations in the next couple months. He has sent invitations to the Exchange Club, the Eastern Plains Chamber of Commerce, the American Legion, Falcon Senior Services and Falcon Garden Club and was open to additional suggestions. He also mentioned the organization’s ongoing efforts to notify citizens of future development applications to allow citizens to raise concerns to the planning commission and board of county commissioners.
Deputy Chief Jeff Petersma of FFPD gave a presentation on the department, including the organizational structure, sources of funding, response times, staffing numbers, fiscal status, the ongoing maintenance building projects, and anticipated financial and administrative challenges. El Paso County District Commissioner Carrie Geitner spoke about developments within her department. Geitner discussed the intricacies of ongoing road projects including issues dealing with contractors. She spoke about the recent implementation of the public works road grading system, which allows for more consistent and preventative maintenance on the roads. She fielded citizen concerns about sidewalks, traffic light safety concerns and development. She also mentioned the citizen connect app as the most reliable way to report road concerns and other issues because it allowed the county to track whether they had been addressed.
Lastly, Lynne Bliss of the Falcon Senior Services spoke about her organization, which holds monthly luncheon meetings courtesy of the Patriot High School Culinary Arts program, weekly exercise classes and other events.
