Free oil changes for military on Veteran’s Day

On Nov. 11, the six Aspen Auto Clinic locations in Colorado Springs and Denver offered free oil changes to active duty military and veterans in celebration of Veteranís Day. Aspen Auto also donated 10 percent of the proceeds from additional repair work completed Nov. 11 to the Wounded Warrior Project.According to the WWP website, its mission is to honor and empower wounded servicemen and servicewomen, with a purpose ìto help injured service members aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members.îErik Smith, managing partner of the Jet Stream Drive store in north Colorado Springs, said the event was a huge success overall. People showed up in droves for the event, and the stores had to issue rain checks to customers who could not get serviced that day, he said.ìThis is the first event like this that we have done,î Smith said. ìWe wanted to do something special … this is probably the best event we have ever had.îAdvanced Auto Parts donated the oil filters, and Colorado Petroleum Products Co. donated the oil, both synthetic and conventional, for all the free oil changes, Smith said.In all, more than 385 customers received free oil changes during the event, he said.Tya Smith, marketing assistant at the store on Tutt Boulevard in Colorado Springs, said her store was so busy they decided to shuttle customers to and from a nearby IHOP, while they were waiting for their vehicles to be serviced.ìIt has been great to see the different branches of the military all intermingling with each other,î Tya Smith said. ìEven in spite of the weather, things have gone really well.î
