VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) and TCE (Tax Counseling for the Elderly) are IRS-sponsored programs operated by local volunteers to provide free, confidential and secure preparation and e-filing of federal and Colorado State income taxes for taxpayers who qualify. For the 2014 tax year (filed in 2015), this service is available for basic returns with income up to $53,000. The income limitation is per return, so couples filing joint returns must have a combined income of that specific amount or less.If you do not qualify for VITA/TCE services, you can use MyFreeTaxes, an online service that lets you prepare your own taxes for free, with telephone support if you have questions. The Community Outreach Center in Calhan is a VITA site again in 2015.† They will offer this service on Mondays by appointment only.† Please call 719-347-7638 to schedule your appointment.†
