Falcon High SchoolThe Falcon High School Falcons are enjoying a great football season. As of this date, their record stands at seven wins and only one defeat, putting them in a tie for first place in the class 4A state standings. Falcon also has an outside chance to win the 4A Pikes Peak League championship.Their only loss so far took place Oct. 4 against the Pine Creek Eagles, with a score of 29-13. Although the momentum was there after beating rival Sand Creek the previous week, the Falcons had a tough time scoring. Kalen Ballage scored both touchdowns, and rushed 27 times for 196 yards. On defense, junior Wyatt Aaberg hustled for 13 tackles.Falcon bounced back in a road game Oct. 11 against the Ponderosa Mustangs, with a 24-14 win. After falling behind 14-0 at half-time, the Falcons rallied in the second half thanks to a 45-yard touchdown made by senior Dylan Cutkomp of the defense. Ballage had his toughest game of the season, with just 68 yards; however, he scored a vital touchdown.On Oct. 19, the Falcon football team routed the boys from Air Academy by a score of 52-12. Ballage was back on with his performance. With 19 carries, he ran for 272 yards and five touchdowns, and also added a 60-yard interception return for another touchdown. Quarterback Austin Worbington threw two touchdowns to Josiah Hall to help ensure victory.Sand Creek High SchoolThe Sand Creek Scorpions currently have a 6-2 overall record, which puts them in third place in the 4A Pikes Peak League standings, and tied for ninth place in the class 4A state standings. With two games remaining, the Scorpions hope to finish strong and get the highest playoff seed they can.After losing to their big rival, the Falcon High School Falcons Sept. 27; the Scorpions came back with a big scoring win Oct. 3 against Air Force Academy, beating them on their home turf 42-6. Michael DeCarmo threw for three scores: two TD throws to senior Jordan Preston and one that DeCarmo ran for 253 yards and a score. Daniel Quin also rushed 19 times for 189 yards and two scores en route to the victory.The Scorpions hosted the Pine Creek Eagles (Colorado Springs) Oct. 11. Pine Creek was unstoppable on offense, soundly defeating Sand Creek 70-27. Pine Creek jumped out to an early 21-0 lead, which turned out to be insurmountable for the Sand Creek team. DeCarmo had a solid game offensively, as he threw for two touchdowns, one of which went 74 yards to senior Kai Daniels. DeCarmo also rushed for 104 yards and scored twice on the ground. On Oct. 17, Sand Creek came back with its own high-scoring win against Rampart ñ 54-13. DeCarmo threw for 118 yards with two touchdowns, ran 13 times for 199 yards and scored three times on the ground. Preston scored twice, one receiving and one on the defensive side of the ball.Vista RidgeThe Vista Ridge Wolves have a current overall record of five wins and three losses. They are currently tied for third in the Pikes Peak League standings, and tied for 17th in the 4A state standings. On Sept. 27, the Wolves traveled to play the Ponderosa Mustangs from Parker and lost 23-9. Ponderosa scored all of its 23 points in the first half, while Vista Ridge scored its nine points in the second half. Sophomore Elway Tubbs had 183 yards passing, with an interception and a fumble. Senior Jaquan Overbay scored the lone touchdown for the Wolves.On Oct. 4, Vista Ridge hosted Rampart and bounced back with a 42-7 victory. Senior Dedrick Lee ran an 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Tubbs was efficient, completing 13 out of 14 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns. Tubbs also added a rushing touchdown as well. Overbay had 236 yards on offense, scored three touchdowns, two receiving and one on the ground.The Wolves continued their high-scoring streak with a 63-0 rout against Air Academy Oct. 11. Vista Ridge scored 42 first-half points, and had five rushing touchdowns by four different players. Tubbs threw for 247 yards with two touchdowns.Vista Ridge won their third straight game Oct. 19 with another shutout against the home team, Liberty Lancers ñ 49-0. Offensively, Tubbs and Overbay dominated the game. Tubbs threw for 312 yards and five touchdowns, while Overbay had 241 yards on offense and three touchdowns ñ two in the air and one on the ground.
