Two infants have been hospitalized with influenza in El Paso County. “These reported hospitalizations serve as a reminder of the seriousness of flu, especially in infants,” said Bernadette Albanese, M.D., M.P.H., medical director of the Health Department.Flu prevention:
- Get vaccinated against flu!
- Stay home with flu symptoms. Keep children home if they show signs of illness. Don’t return to work or school until 24 hours after a fever ends, without the help of fever-reducing medicines.
- Wash hands frequently.
- Cough or sneeze into a tissue or a sleeve.
- Stay away from others who are sick.
- Anyone age 6 months and older
- Especially people at high risk for developing flu-related complications or those who live with or care for people at high risk.
- High risk people include children younger than 2 years of age, adults age 65 and older and pregnant women. Also at risk: people with chronic illnesses, nursing home patients, health care workers.
