Falcon Fire Protection District (FFPD)

FFPD welcomes new firefighters

Six firefighter reserve candidates have completed training to become members of the Falcon Fire Protection District. Marc Beahan, Kelley Delaney, Mike Deckard Jr., Nathan Hale, Cody Finn-Kueker and Luke McIntosh are certified emergency medical technicians; all have served with other fire departments.Because of their previous experience, the candidates completed an abbreviated version of the FFPD fire academy designed for lateral transfers. The training was intended to refresh basic skills such as fire attack, ventilation, search and rescue techniques and water supply operations, while introducing the candidates to methods and procedures specific to FFPD.ìI feel the candidates did very well,î said David Smith, FFPD training lieutenant. ìThey showed that they wanted to be here at Falcon and were determined to finish the Lateral academy process.îThe reserve firefighter/EMTs perform the same duties as FFPDís career firefighters and EMTs. They are required to work 36 hours per month and attend the same trainings as career staff. Often, reservists eventually become paid employees of the district.ìWith the new laterals, FFPD has increased staffing for our organization,î Smith said. ìThe community will continue to receive the best quality care that we provide along with quick responses.î
