The Falcon Fire Protection District held a special board meeting Aug. 7. All directors were present except Greg Heule, who participated via conference call.Public commentKen Carroll from the Spirit Lakes Homeowners Association suggested that FFPD apply for FEMA funding earmarked for mitigation, as discussed at some Black Forest fire recovery meetings. He proposed that such funds could pay for a pick-up service or on-site chipping service to help increase the efficiency of mitigation waste disposal in the interest of fire prevention and improving forest health.Carroll also asked about the status of possibly installing a dry hydrant at the Spirit Lakes lower pond. He said water levels in that pond dropped due to its use during the Black Forest fire, but recent rains seemed to be raising levels. Chief Trent Harwig had no assessment information available but said he would consult with Vernon Champlin, fire marshal.
