FFPD paramedic receives Star of Life Award

American Medical Response paramedic Nick Pieper has been chosen as a Star of Life, the highest award an emergency medical services caregiver can receive. Pieper is assigned to the AMR ambulance at station No. 1 in the Falcon Fire Protection District.The American Ambulance Association sponsors the Stars of Life award program, which recognizes individuals for their achievements working in the ambulance industry. According to the AMR website, AMR selects its Stars of Life recipients based on ìtheir demonstrated commitment to AMRís vision and core values, significant accomplishments during the previous year, their ability to represent AMR in public venues such as congressional visits, local media opportunities and speaking events, and their demonstrated ability to work as a team member.îPieper is the only AMR employee from Colorado to receive the award in 2013, and one of 14 AMR employees nationwide. AMR/El Paso County manager Scott McCune said Pieper was nominated for his dedication and contributions to FFPDís EMS training and education program.Pieper will attend the American Ambulance Associationís Stars of Life award ceremony in Washington, D.C. in March, where he and his fellow Stars of Life will meet with members of Congress and tour Capitol Hill.
