On Dec. 22, a fire engine was stolen from Falcon Fire Protection District Station 3 at 15355 Jones Road. How the engine was stolen from the secure facility is not yet known, but the matter is currently being investigated by the fire district and law enforcement agencies. At this time, the engine has been recovered but it was severely damaged by the person or persons who stole it. As a result, the engine, valued in excess of $210,000, is a total loss. A new engine will have to be purchased to provide fire and emergency medical services to the citizens who live in District 3.Although the stolen engine was insured, the replacement cost of a new engine exceeds the value of the totaled engine. The cost difference will be paid for by the fire district, but ultimately by the citizens in the service area. The fire district will continue to provide fire and emergency medical services to the area served by the stolen engine, using resources located at other District fire stations; however, a delay in response might be apparent. The fire district is deeply concerned since the theft of this fire engine puts the community at risk, and believes that the person or persons responsible should answer for their actions. Although this matter is being investigated by law enforcement agencies, the fire district asks that the citizens of our community help by locating those responsible. The fire district will pay a reward of $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who stole the fire engine on Dec. 22. Please contact Fire Chief Trent Harwig at 719-495-4050 if you have information regarding this situation.
