The Falcon Fire Protection District held its regular monthly board meeting Aug. 19. All board members were present. Richard Shearer, legal counsel for the district, was also present.Treasurerís reportFire Chief Trent Harwig reported that the fiscal year was 58 percent complete as of July 31. The district has received 94 percent of its anticipated revenue, and expenditures are at 49 percent, or about $200,000 under budget. Harwig said he does not anticipate that the district will go over budget this year.Chiefís reportFFPD responded to 159 incidents in the month of July, bringing the total to 1,139 for the year, which is down slightly from 1,146 for the same period in 2014.Harwig said the materials have arrived for the Plymovent diesel exhaust system at Station 3. Installation was scheduled for the last week of August, and Harwig said he anticipates the system will be ìup and running before the next board meeting.îInsurance will be about $3,500 more than budgeted, but Harwig said it is less than what he was previously told.The actuarial evaluation of the volunteer pension fund showed the fund is sound at the current $460 monthly payment for fully vested members. The fund is also sound at theoretical rates of $480 and $500 per month, but not at $520.Harwig said personnel at the Colorado Springs Fire Department indicated that the county will be moving to the 2015 version of the International Fire Code, with adoption of the 2015 code anticipated in 2017. He said the city is willing to work with the district to develop code amendments under the current Memorandum of Understanding that FFPD has with the city.Station 4Director Dan Kupferer reported that the district has submitted a letter of intent for property near Rocky Mountain Materials, located northwest of Constitution Avenue and Marksheffel Road. There seems to be interest in the offer, but the seller is looking into potential tax credits. Kupferer said if the deal doesnít work out, the district will pursue other options.Black Forest Reserve cisternHarwig reported that installation is complete and the 30,000 gallon cistern is operational.Highway 24 and Old Meridian Road redesignHarwig said the county has agreed to the districtís request for ìat gradeî access for Station 3, and preliminary drawings have been sent. ìThatís likely the last weíll hear about it for a while,î he said. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2016.Peyton Fire Protection District water tender storageThe Peyton Fire Protection District has asked to store a water tender at FFPD Station 6 because it does not have heated space available for the winter. Leon Gomes from PFPD said the district would prefer to keep the tender full and ready for response, rather than drain it; and the district does not want to risk costly repairs if the pump freezes. PFPD offered to pay for heating costs and will allow FFPD to use the tender if needed.The FFPD board voted unanimously to approve the arrangement.
