Falcon Youth Baseball steps forward

The inaugural season of the Falcon Youth Baseball Organization was, by all accounts, a resounding success.Larry Anderson, president of the FYBO, said that the board of directors was extremely pleased with the season just completed and excited about next season. “We made remarkable strides,” he said. “The players learned a lot of baseball fundamentals and sportsmanship, the coaches learned from the players, and we, as a league, learned how to do business. Along the way, we even managed to win a few baseball games. It doesn’t get any better than that. Our success can be traced directly to the commitment of its volunteers and supporters. Assistance from District 49 was critical, and the adult volunteers who coached, umpired, sold concessions or raked fields were the prime movers who made our season successful.”Anderson also stated that the league is moving forward with planning for next year, with its next membership meeting scheduled for Oct. 7 at 7 p.m., to be held at the Grace Community Church. The meeting, which is open to all interested adults and children, will ratify the proposed constitution, elect league directors, determine league direction and vote on a plan to apply for Little League affiliation.”Since this is our first year,” said Anderson, “and we have been kind of flying by the seat of our pants. Ratification of the constitution will have a profound effect on how we conduct business, and will set the tone and the tenor of the league for years to come.”The FYBO played its games in the local Black Forest League, competing against teams from Calhan, Peyton, Simla, Ellicott, Rush and Elbert. Next year, FYBO intends to affiliate with Little League, Inc. “We are going to bring Little League baseball to the eastern El Paso County area,” said Anderson, “and offer it to all the surrounding towns. It is not our intention to circumvent the Black Forest League, but rather, to offer an alternative program that we think will supplement the BFL very nicely. Affiliation with Little League will give us the structure and guidance that can only help our program move forward.”
