Falcon senior services activities

Flowers, ribbons, lace and tiny creatures donned the many hats worn by members of the senior group at their April 11 luncheon, which featured an Easter bonnet contest. Judges had a difficult time choosing, Bev Ordon said, but they declared the following as winners: Elsie Edwards for the most creative straw hat, which was covered with large flowers and finished with chicks, bunnies and eggs nestled in Easter grass sprinkled around the brim. Funniest hat went to Dale Reed, who wore a fishing cap to which he had attached Rainbow Falls tickets with safety pins.A salmon pink hat draped with a multi-colored pastel scarf and trimmed with flowers, butterflies and bees won the prettiest award for Marie Hein. Runners up included Cathy Wittrup in a felted hat made of fiber from Pepper, her Appaloosa llama, embellished with lace and pink carnations, and Gabrielle Wolff, who sported a Victorian-style straw hat with pink carnations and lace. Not eligible for the competition but worthy of note was the Peeps covered baseball cap created by Nick Ordon. It not only generated conversation as a clever idea but also the love-hate relationship for the marshmallow confection. Many agreed that a most noble destiny for a Peep could be glued to the brim of a baseball cap.The next potluck luncheon is May 9 at Falcon Baptist Church (11095 Eggar Road) at 11 a.m. The main fare is tacos, and everyone is invited to add to the menu and share in the fiesta by bringing a favorite Mexican dish, salad or dessert.
