Larry Stanley, the president of Protect Our Wells (POW), spoke at the August FPDL meeting. Please read this month’s “Monkey Chronicles” for details about Larry’s presentation. At the suggestion of Jim Ozburn, owner of Falcon Food Store, FPDL members agreed to donate $200 of this year’s budget to the county fair for next year’s 4-H banquet.Falcon radio station?Dave Beadles, an FPDL member and State Farm agent, also discussed the possibilities of bringing a low-power FM radio station to Falcon. The lower powered station is less expensive than a commercial radio station and available to nonprofit organizations. Beadles said the start-up costs are about $25,000, which includes a transmitter, phones, microphones, mixing boards, wires and cables, etc., etc.Beadles said that small-town radio stations could be the “heart of the community” announcing birthdays, anniversaries, school sports and much more – a “broadcast of special events.” The initial needs include space for an office and studio and a site for a transmitter and antenna. He is looking toward the FPDL, as a nonprofit entity, for possible sponsorship.”We need business, church and community support in the form of dollars that would be donated specifically through the FPDL,” Beadles said. “My idea would be to pay back (retire the debt) as quickly as possible and then upgrade the equipment after the initial purchases.” Paid radio spot or ads would help pay for the costs. He said the easy part is gathering volunteers. “Everyone wants to be a star,” he said. Beadles is intercepting questions or interest at his home office: 683-2979 or you can e-mail him at davebeadlescfp@aol.com.The next meeting of the FPDL is Wed., Sept. 7 at 7:30 a.m. at the Falcon Fire Protection District firehouse.
