Alpine Vision Men’s Softball Team of Falcon, sponsored by optometrist and player, Tyson Reuter, won the gold medal at the 2006 Rocky Mountain State Games in Colorado Springs in August. The team, comprised of players from Woodmen Hills and the surrounding area, defeated the Fort Carson Aces in the championship game with back-to-back wins. They finish the 2006 season undefeated with two tournament championships.Team coach Eddie Avedikian, director of the Woodmen Hills Community Center, said what makes the team great is “heart.””This team plays with a lot of heart,” Avedikian said. “We were down in the second game of the tournament by 10 runs in the fifth inning. The defense held, and we came back to win the game.”Avedikian played softball four times a week during the summer months, all the while scouting for players. During the off season, he said he contacts potential team members.”We have athletes who love to compete,” Avedikian said. “We have a great mix of guys who understand how to move runners along and use power when we need it. Our offense and defense are strong, and we make few errors on the field, which always keeps us in the games.”Avedikian said this team means “great exposure for a small town like Falcon and the team’s sponsors.” He added, “I think you’ll be hearing more about our team in the future.”Avedikian is currently in search of sponsorships for the 2007 season.
