This Falcon Lions Club Kidsight, an international preschool eye screening program, begins in August for Falcon School District 49, home-schooled children and private preschools. Lions Clubs around the world have helped saved the eyesight of countless children.Lion’s volunteers take photographs of the children’s dilated eyes and forward them to Children’s Hospital for evaluation. Parents received notification of the results, and, if needed, they are provided with referrals to eye care professionals for follow up treatment. Fourteen Lion’s Club members attended the Kidsight training held at Falcon Family Eye Care in Falcon and received extensive training by Amy Springer, the program director for Colorado. Fellow Lion Dr. Andy Royer from Falcon Family Eye Care is actively involved with this program. The Lion’s goal: to screen 350 preschoolers.Other projects under way include the Community Needs Survey Assessment program, which also kicks off in August. Lion’s Club members are asking the Falcon and Peyton residents to participate in the survey and provide much needed input. The 2007 clothing, food and used-eyeglass collection boxes are located in all Falcon banks and other establishments. If a business would like to have a collection box, contact Jean Woolsey at 719-749-2090.The work day at Lions Club Camp is Sept. 8, and the ongoing Woodmen Road clean up project is Oct. 13.It was standing room only at the Lion’s Club program meeting at the Colorado National Bank branch in Falcon. Lion District Gov. Monty Whitney and Lion Betty Whitney updated the club on Lions Club International programs. Campaign Sight II – eliminating sight related diseases around the world – is a main focus. Another focus is the expansion of technology used by local clubs. The international club would like to increase the participation of local students in the Peace Poster and Speech Contests and increase sponsorships of LEO clubs in local centers of education.See information in “Community Calendar” on times and dates of meetings and the Saturday arts and crafts fairs.
