Falcon incorporation update

Thomas Cline, Falcon Incorporation Committee moderator, said the group is still working to finalize the proposed budget and town charter. The FIC released a map detailing boundaries for the proposed town last month (published in the March edition of the NFH).Cline said he didn’t receive much feedback from the community regarding the proposed boundaries, and he doesn’t know when more information will be provided to the public or when a vote on the issue might happen.”We haven’t had our last three meetings due to sickness,” he said.Ramah Mayor Tamra Herrera has reservations about the logistics of incorporating Falcon. Regarding the proposed boundaries, she said, “I don’t see how they can divide Falcon, especially with how big Falcon is getting.”Ramah is located about 30 miles east of Falcon and Herrara said, “If you blink, you would probably miss it.” She has been mayor of Ramah, a town of 136 residents, for two years and on the town board for 16 years.”I wouldn’t advise it (incorporation),” Herrera said, “Who’s going to fill pot holes and provide law enforcement? There is a lot that is involved in it.”I’m very happy with how everything is (for Ramah), but you need to consider where to get funding to maintain roadways, sewer, to purchase and maintain equipment and hire a town board.”She said because Ramah is incorporated, it relies on part of its revenue from its own sewer and water service.Herrera also said Ramah applies for grants from the state of Colorado and Mountain View Electric Association. Those grants have helped build a baseball field, improve a cemetery and rebuild a park.
