Falcon girl wins National Miss talent contest

This is Riley Newcomer’s third year as a contestant in the Colorado National American Miss pageant. This year, 6-year-old Riley won the talent contest with a rendition of the song, “Tomorrow,” from the musical, “Annie.” She also competed in the overall National American Miss title in the princess category – ages 4 to 6.Riley, daughter of Matt and Shannon Newcomer of Falcon, placed in the top-10 – among 46 finalists – in the overall competition. The top-five girls chosen in the statewide contest will vie for the title of National American Miss in November in Los Angeles. Although Riley was not among the top-five, her No. 1 spot in the talent contest entitles her to compete in the talent portion of the National American Miss pageant. She also was voted first runner up in the “Miss Personality” portion of the statewide contest.Riley said she is looking forward to the competition because “it’s fun to be on stage and perform in front of people.”The Newcomers are long-time Falcon residents. Riley’s parents, Matt and Shannon, graduated from Falcon High School, and her maternal grandparents, Gary and Patsy Wurster, owned the first house in Woodmen Hills. Matt Newcomer and his dad, Joel (a former Falcon resident) own Newcomer’s Plumbing and Heating.Riley also has a bit of competition at home, with 2-year-old sister Emily.
