Falcon fitness – something for everyone

The Falcon area provides several choices for residents interested in weight loss and toning flabby muscles.For women only, there is Curves in the Falcon Town Center. Kathy Kelley has owned Curves for three years, and Mel Sharpe manages the fitness center. Curves is part of a coast-to-coast chain, and Sharpe said members could use any fitness center across the country. Client Michele Spires frequently travels with her job and uses Curves centers wherever she goes.”Curves really changed my life,” Spires said. “I’m down 55 pounds from when I started the program, and I’ve lost 57 inches. It has been slow and steady. Most important, it is a lifestyle change.And I love the camaraderie and support I get from members everywhere I go.”Sharpe and Kelley are showcasing their new computerized cardio program, which helps clients monitor their progress. Called Curves Smart, it was developed in conjunction with Baylor University. Participating in the program is not a requirement for membership.Sharpe said the best part of Curves is that “you always have a counselor working with you, plus the other members are very supportive.” Curves charges a monthly fee plus an initiation fee.Perfect Fit Wellness Center at 9480 Curtis Road houses many services under one roof. In addition to the fitness center, a chiropractor, massage therapist and nutritionist are available. The center has a wide range of gym facilities and equipment. Owner David Corder, a certified personal trainer, also offers an array of classes, including yoga, core power and aerobic dance. Discussion groups are free and open to the public.”We don’t have initiation fees or contracts,” Corder said. “Your monthly fee includes all our classes and facilities, plus lectures on wellness topics. The Woodmen Hills Community Center West at 11720 Woodmen Hills Drive has an outdoor pool, and the Woodmen Hills Recreation Center East at 9205 Meridian Ranch Blvd. houses a pool and fitness center, operated by the YMCA.Snap Fitness at 7360 McLaughlin Road advertises 24-hour availability to members. Jackie Macfarlane and her husband Graham are the new owners of Snap Fitness. Personal trainer Angie Ranno is on board to work with members.”We want to build and be part of a fitness club where everyone feels comfortable and at home when working out,” Jackie Macfarlane said. “Our desire is to create an atmosphere where people of all levels of fitness can come, work hard, feel good and be well.” The club requires no contracts and also offers online training. Because Snap Fitness is a national chain, members can work out at any Snap facility nationwide.
