Falcon family raising money for band uniforms

In what is fast becoming a Falcon Thanksgiving tradition, Wade and Treesje Wallin and their seven children will perform a holiday benefit concert Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. at the Falcon High School auditorium. The concert, “Here We Come A-Caroling,” will feature traditional Christmas carols and original compositions by Wade Wallin. Admission is free, but donations for the marching band are requested. All of the proceeds will go toward new band uniforms. The concert is similar to the one performed last year, which raised $15,000 for the purchase of a grand piano for the FHS auditorium.Treesje Wallin said the family began concert preparations in the summer and made a trip to Utah in October to practice with their two oldest daughters, who are attending Brigham Young University. The Wallins’ children range in age from 5 years old to 20. “It’s a great experience teaching three, four, and five-part harmony to a 9-year old,” Wallin said. “It is expanding our talents.”James Divine, FHS music teacher, said he started the marching band three years ago. Divine said the band is comprised of 28 students, and they began performing in competitions this year. He said new uniforms would improve the look of the band – which currently sports black pants and white polo shirts.New uniforms could run as much as $20,000 to outfit 50 band members, Divine said.He said the FHS instrumental program includes three concert bands, a jazz band, the marching band, and an orchestra and guitar class. He said it continues to grow, with more and more students enrolling each year.
