Eastern Plains Chamber of CommerceThe chamber held its monthly meeting Aug. 6. Randy Scott, president of the Southern Colorado Business Partnership, spoke to members about the possibility of the chamber rejoining the regional organization. The SCBP allows members of its organizations to attend all the other chambersí events at their membersí rates. The Eastern Plains Chamber was a founding member of the SCBP but was suspended for non-payment of dues and not sending a representative to its board meetings, Scott said. The members voted to submit a new application for membership to rejoin the SCBP.Michael Doherty, managing librarian for the High Prairie Library in Falcon, spoke about resources for businesses at the Pikes Peak Library District. ìWeíre one of the smaller libraries, but we do some pretty amazing things at our branch,î Doherty said. ìThe 6,000-square footage of our library is actually much more extensive because of our resources and our people.îLibraries have changed in focus since the widespread adoption of the Internet, Doherty said. ìYou might have a conception of what a librarian is, but our job is connecting people with information and connecting people with people,î Doherty said.The bylaw amendment vote scheduled for the August meeting was extended. A quorum of member votes was not collected between the physical votes at the meeting and absent member emailed votes.LnB Connectorsí B.E.E.R.At its August meeting, Falcon Business Entrepreneurs Enhancing Relationships held lectures and group discussions on helping members explain the reasons they are in business, as opposed to how they do business. The group also participated in role playing exercises on how to differentiate a business when the product or service itself is essentially the same as a competitorís offer.Falcon B.E.E.R. meets every Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. at Guadalajara Family Mexican Restaurant.Falcon PEPNetThe PEPNet chapter in Falcon is focused on updating their networking result progress reports, said Art Pierson, chapter president. Some of the chapterís members have had great success in increasing their business through networking in the past several months, he said.Falcon PEPNet meets every Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. at La Mission Mexican Restaurant.
