Falcon band on its way to state competition

The Falcon High School Wind Ensemble has been chosen to compete in the Colorado state band competition April 22 at Colorado State University.James Divine, instrumental music teacher, said the band was among 80 high school bands statewide that competed for a spot in the top 24. The wind ensemble performed with about 20 other bands in front of a panel of judges at Cheyenne Mountain High School.”This is something none of us expected this year,” Divine said. The band is comprised of 32 members in grades nine through 12.Raeanna Dugan, FHS booster club vice president, is impressed with what the band has accomplished. “He has just done an awesome job getting the band to where it’s at,” Dugan said of Divine. She said the booster club raises funds to support band events.This is the first year the band has been invited to the state tournament. “I have seen a new level of seriousness in them,” Divine said. “This has made them realize we should take everything we do to the next level.”He encourages the community to attend the competition. “We’re trying to get all the support we can get,” Divine said.Divine said he promised the band that he would shave his head if they secured a spot in the tournament. He made good on his word.
