Fair using four wheels for advertising

A new vehicle of advertising is being used to advertise the 100th anniversary of the El Paso County Fair. Teamwork and the spirit of community came together for an innovate project designed to increase awareness of this 100 year old event.Dan Vetrano, president of the El Paso County Fair Resource Development Association, and Norm Englehart of NCAS Maintenance of Ellicott purchased a restored delivery truck with the idea of making it festive enough to “drive home” the desire to entice people to the county fair’s centennial celebration.Gordon Insurance donated six months of vehicle insurance, Kevin Maguire, owner of Overhead Door, donated new windows and Rocky Mountain Metal installed them at no charge.Performance Graphics donated half the signage and the fair’s resource development association paid the other half. Peoples Mortgage donated a filing cabinet and chairs for the interior. The Falcon Fire Department donated a rescue unit – the same vintage as the van – and parts from that unit were used on the van to gussie it up.Cash sponsors of the van were Same Day Haulin’ NCAS Maintenance, Kunau Drilling and Schubert Sod Farm. Volunteers who helped renovate the van were Terry Brown, Tom Myers, Russ and Martie Stott, Jim Abendschan and, of course, Dan Vetrano,A “FAIR VAN SPOTTERS” contest calling for those who spot the van in certain locations will soon begin. Spotters will be asked to log on to the Web site to win tickets to the fair. The 100th annual El Paso County Fair, presented by Team Chevrolet, is July 23 through July 30 at the El Paso County Fair and Events Complex in Calhan (30 minutes East of Colorado Springs on Highway 24).
