Matt Gibbs, FFPD firefighter, has been awarded the Exchange Clubís Firefighter of the Year Award for 2012.Gibbs currently serves as the program coordinator for many community focused activities in the district. Gibbs organizes and oversees a comprehensive second-grade fire-safety and risk-reduction curriculum in local schools. He also instructs community CPR classes and maintains an active role in area juvenile fire setter prevention programs.In addition to maintaining fire fighting, emergency medical and hazardous materials certifications, Gibbs holds a masterís degree in education and a Colorado State teaching certificate. Gibbs is a former elementary school teacher and community education specialist.Falcon Fire Chief Trent Harwig described Gibbs as ìa great asset to our community, with an exceptional talent for teaching life-saving initiatives to all agesî.Gibbs is married to Emily and has three sons.
