In 1911, when a group of businessmen decided to form a group, their founder, Charles A. Berkey, suggested the name “Exchange” because they wanted to exchange ideas and information on how to serve their communities. Today, Exchange is an all volunteer, national service organization made up of men and women who lend their time and talents toward making a difference. The Exchange Club of Falcon, like the nearly 800 Exchange Clubs across America, serves the local community through Americanism, community service, youth activities and the prevention of child abuse. Recently, Karen Anderson crocheted 25 blankets for children. Members of the Child Abuse Prevention committee wrapped the blankets in cellophane. Anderson’s gift was donated to the Victim’s Assistance Program of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department.Through Americanism projects, the Exchange club promotes pride in our country, flag and freedom. Patriotism was alive at the Red White and Brave Welcome Home Parade Aug. 29 in downtown Colorado Springs. Members of the Exchange Club of Falcon passed out small American flags to children under the Give A Kid A Flag To Wave program. For more information on the Falcon Exchange Club, contact Bob Miller at 641-0752 or Joe Bauer at 262-9222.
