Exchange Club gives to Victim’s Assistance Program

The Exchange Club of Falcon has gifted various items to help victims in abusive situations for four years in a row. Susan “Sam” McAfee-Acre, victims assistance coordinator in the El Paso County Sherriff’s Department was the speaker for the club’s April meeting. McAfee-Acre said the program operates 24 hours 7 days a week in unincorporated El Paso County, the city of Fountain, Manitou Springs, Falcon, Peyton and much of the eastern plains. They provide advocacy in crimes against persons, domestic violence, as well as child abuse victims. Often victims are unable to work, yet they need care for their own families. They respond to many situations with crisis intervention and referrals, even providing chaplain availability on the scene. The Exchange Club donated 44 new hand-crocheted blankets, 30 pairs of new shoes and socks and 20 sweat suits to the Victim’s Assistance Program, which helped more than 3,800 victims last year alone.
