Exchange Club events

Submitted by Don Koveleski, president

The Exchange Club of Falcon has been busy again the past couple of months. The club hosted the first Annual Eastern Plains Senior Resource Expo at Bennett Ranch Elementary School in Falcon on July 26. There were more than 17 senior care agencies from El Paso County that provide services to Falcon, Peyton, Black Forest and Calhan areas.

A few of the agencies were HomeCare for Heroes, Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care, Falcon Senior Services, Rocky Mountain PACE, the Alzheimer’s Association and several more. Troy Waltz of Bend in the Road Studios offered free entertainment at the event, and everyone enjoyed the songs and guitar playing. The Exchange Club is planning on continuing this event so that seniors and caregivers on the Eastern Plains will become familiar with the resources available to them.

In August, the Exchange Club donated $500 to the arts department at Bennett Ranch Elementary school. Debra Balint, club member, presented the check to Kathy Gabler, administrative assistant at Bennett Ranch Elementary School. The club heard about the funding cuts at the D 49 Falcon Zone. We care about the youth in our community. Art instruction helps children with the development of motor skills, language skills, social skills, decision-making, risk-taking and inventiveness. We are proud to partner with the D 49 Falcon Zone with this activity, along with the D 49 food pantry.

The scholarship program, with assistance from the guidance counselor, is continuing at the Falcon High School for seniors. The annual scholarship award is presented each May, and the winning essay is submitted to the Exchange Club district committee for a monetary award. If chosen, that student’s essay is forwarded to the national level for a possible $15,000 scholarship.

Finally, the Exchange Club of Falcon is having their 16th Annual Falcon Craft Fair at the Falcon High School Oct. 4 and Oct. 5 (see Community Calendar). The two-day event is indoors on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Non-perishable items and winter clothing will be accepted and shared between the D 49 Closet & Pantry and the Eastern Plains Community Pantry in Calhan. All of the vendor booth fees, silent auction sales, raffles and donations will be shared with our partnering agencies: Eastern Plains Community Pantry, D 49 Falcon Zone and other partnering organizations that share are four areas of interest — Child Abuse Prevention, Americanism, Youth and Community Services. There will be more than 80 vendors at the craft fair with a huge selection of crafts, jewelry, food and holiday gifts of all sorts.

The Exchange Club of Falcon cares about our community. If you would like more information about joining the club and being part of change, please contact Don Koveleski at 719-369-5158. Follow our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100085884888543 to learn more about our events.
