Elections and the new fire station

Board reorganizedAt its May 20 meeting, the Falcon Fire Protection District Board of Directors welcomed new board member Ray Hawkins, who fills the seat that had been held for eight years by Dan Kupferer. Elections also took place: Tom Kerby is the new president; Joan Hathcock is vice president; Cory Galicia is treasurer; and Mike Collins is secretary, with Hawkins as the assistant secretary.Chief’s reportChief Trent Harwig reported there were 17 medical transports in April and 14 fires. To date this year, Falcon has responded to 39 fires.Plans for new station 3The board voted to ratify a $2.2 million contract with Hammer Construction Co. for the new FFPD Station No. 3, which will be built on the same property as the current Station No. 3. The entire cost of the project is expected to total $2.5 million. Harwig said there was enough money in the budget to cover any preliminary costs before Hammer starts construction, which is scheduled for August. To finance construction, the board also ratified a lease purchase agreement in the amount of about $2,200,000 with Farmers State Bank of Calhan. The 20-year note is at 3 percent interest with no early payoff. The board also approved a contract totaling $97,000 with Frazee Construction Co. for the projectís sewer and water needs.New administration buildingThe board also reviewed various drawings for the exterior of the new administration building (current Station No. 3), which will be remodeled after the new Station 3 is completed.The next board meeting is June 17.
