El Paso County Public Health now offering online food safety training

Public Health now offers convenient online food safety training at their Web site, http://elpasocountyhealth.org.StateFoodSafety.com was recently selected to partner with El Paso County Public Health to offer online food handler training for food workers and anyone interested in improving their food safety practices. The high-quality training, which can be completed in about 75 minutes, is a convenient, user-friendly and affordable alternative to in-person training. The online course is available in full audio and video in three languages: English, Spanish and Mandarin. Korean and Vietnamese versions are planned for later in the fall. The cost is $13, which can be paid online.ìWe are excited to partner with StateFoodSafety.com to deliver this new option and hope people will utilize it,î said Tom Gonzales, M.P.H., director of environmental health. El Paso County Public Health is the first in the state to offer this online training option. Education helps improve food safety practices within the retail food industry and also can benefit people who prepare food in their homes. Many foodborne illnesses can be prevented when proper safety steps are followed.î The top three critical food safety violations in El Paso Countyís retail food establishments are employee hygienic practices, temperature control of food and contaminated equipment.Public Health will continue to offer its in-person Basic Food Safety classes. The next class in English will be Nov. 15 from 2 to 4 p.m., and the Spanish class will be offered Nov. 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. These classes will be held at the Citizens Services Center, 1675 W. Garden of the Gods Rd., Colorado Springs, Colo.
