Jim Abendschan, El Paso County Fair manager, presented the 2005 county fair annual report to the El Paso County Board of Commissioners in September.The fair celebrated its 100th anniversary with 196 events that ran throughout the 8-day festivities in Calhan.According to the report, 35,634 people attended the fair, a 19 percent increase from 2004. Revenue increased 16 percent with total income exceeding $242,000. Abendschan said the 2005 expenses should also meet budget goals. Communities and nonprofit organizations raised more than $30,000 for the fair.The Resource Development Association, a nonprofit group that supports the fair, sponsored the Modified Tractor Pull, Fair Mobile, VIP Tent and all centennial merchandise. Abendschan said more than 500 volunteers contributed more than 10,000 hours.For more information on the fair, call 520-7880.
