Eastern Plains Chamber of Commerce meeting notes

Thank you all who joined us on Jan. 4 at our monthly meeting at Grace Community Church. Our meeting was well-attended and engaging.††Our breakfast sponsor was KTM Arms and its owner, Craig Williams.†There was a testimonial by Dan Lanotte of Falcon Personal Security. He said that he only recommends KTM Arms to his students.Chris Wilhelmi, a local attorney and partner with the well-established firm of Stinar Zendejas Burrell & Wilhelmi was our speaker.†The firm has nine attorneys and 12 staff members. Wilhelmi focuses his practice on employment and insurance law.††The main thing he recommends to small business owners is to first have a CPA to help with tracking money and taxes. It is also recommended that small businesses separate personal and business. He suggested mechanisms like having a business checking account and to properly register your business with the Colorado Secretary of State. He said that this process of establishing barriers of separation will better protect you by separating business from personal liability in any future lawsuit.†Chris further recommends that one put everything in writing. Agreements to perform work, subcontracting agreements, employment contracts and handbooks are all examples. He advises, in any dispute, to leave egos behind. If one can solve a problem without the need of legal counsel and courts, it is better. The board of the Eastern Plains Chamber is honored to have members like Craig Williams and speakers like Chris Wilhelmi, who will dedicate their time to educate our membership. We hope you found it to be as valuable.More information on the chamber is available on our website: https://mms.easternplainschamber.comThe Eastern Plains Chamber of Commerce holds its monthly meetings at Grace Community Church at 9475 Grace Church View in Falcon the first Wednesday of the month; breakfast and coffee is from 7 a.m. to 7:30; the meeting is from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30.
