El Paso County Colorado District 49

Dog and cats in area need rabies vaccines

The El Paso County Board of Commissioners amended the Pet Animal Control/Dog Licensing Rules and Regulations to authorize rabies vaccinations for cats and dogs in all unincorporated areas of El Paso County, according to a news release from the county.Former regulations required rabies vaccinations only for dogs and cats living in the animal control enforcement boundaries. The new rule will require a rabies vaccination for all cats and dogs residing in all areas of the county. The rule goes into effect Aug. 26.”This is clearly a public safety issue,” said Commissioner Sallie Clark. “We have a responsibility to provide a safe environment for both pets and residents in our entire community.” Board Chairman Dennis Hisey said the new resolution created “uniform health and safety regulations for all residents living in the cities or unincorporated county.”Prior to the new regulations, El Paso County was the only county in Colorado that did not require countywide rabies vaccinations.
