Dirt Bikers Should Demand Another Location

Somehow dirt bikers have decided Falcon residents are villains for wanting to preserve what is ours by law: the right to the peaceful enjoyment of our property and homes. We’re hardworking people who choose to live in the county for the peace and quiet. Like almost everyone else, our homes are the largest dollar investment we’ll make in our lifetimes.Dirt bikers would pay about $10 a day apiece to destroy our peace and quiet. And they’d be able to do this six days a week from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday through Monday, and 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. They may even be offered a discount for an annual subscription. In Falcon alone, dirt bikers can ride at Aztec, Wild Rat, Dragon Man and other private dirt bike trails. In Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Divide and the rest of Colorado they have hundreds more miles of trails. They can drive to another location. We can’t pick up and move our homes.Instead of insulting residents, they need to demand the county find an alternate location. The county only looked into five other sites. That’s pitiful. Other OHV parks around the country have looked into as many as 50-60 sites. Corral Bluffs is surrounded by residences, it’s high priority land for conservation, it’s a prime site for fossil discovery, and it’s home to endangered raptors and many other animals. It’s clearly not an appropriate site for a dirt bike park. When Falcon residents want to take their kids to a park, they have to drive to Black Forest or Colorado Springs. Falcon is a fast-growing community which needs a regional park. For years, Corral Bluffs has been designated to fill that role. That is the appropriate use for this land.Jeff and Phyllis Cahill
