Oldest school in ColoradoThe Doyle School is located near the Huerfano River in Pueblo County, where Doyle Road and East Huerfano Road meet at the bridge across the river. Joseph Bainbridge Doyle settled in the area and was one of the builders of Fort Pueblo; its site is located in Pueblo.He purchased land stretching for 2 miles along the Huerfano River in 1859 and put 600 acres under cultivation using irrigation ditches that he constructed.The school remains standing and is believed to be the oldest one-room school in Colorado.
