The internal greenbelt trails, referred to by BLRM as pasillos, have been designed to connect with the Banning Lewis Ranch Academy, the community center, future retail shops and restaurants and the many parks designed for the community.Hadi Makarechian, chairman and CEO of the Banning Lewis Ranch Management Co. said, “When you live in an area like Colorado Springs where you get more than 250 days of sunshine a year, it’s natural to plan a community around a creative and healthy outdoor lifestyle.”Those plans include 50 acres of themed parks, open space and plentiful trails throughout the 321-acre Northtree development.Native landscaping also is planned. The new release reported that “residents will see artful, water-wise planting strategies, including the use of many native species in at least 75 percent of Northtree’s public areas.”More than 1,000 homes will be built in the Northtree community, and construction on the model homes was expected to start in August. The Banning Lewis Ranch consists of 21,000 acres total. The BLRM is developing the area, which is bordered by Woodmen Road to the north, Fontaine Boulevard to the south, Meridian Road to the east and Marksheffel to the west. The city annexed the ranch in 1988, with a master plan calling for a balanced mix of homes, commercial, industrial and office space, according to the news release. “Development will be market-driven, with roadways, utilities and other needed infrastructure built as development occurs.”
