I just read the New Falcon Herald’s article entitled “Dangerous Intersections in Falcon ó Part 1.î The article is well written, and I applaud you for taking on this issue.I live in Falcon’s Meridian Ranch close to the Meridian Ranch Elementary School. My morning commute results in a near death experience every day. The New Falcon Herald’s article accurately addresses the dangers of the Meridian and Londonderry intersection (which could be easily remedied with the addition of a left turn signal). Additionally, there are a few other nearby intersections just as dangerous.The first harrowing set of intersections arise when one attempts to turn left (east bound) onto Londonderry Road from any of the three Meridian Ranch neighborhood egresses (Rainbow Bridge Drive, Boulder Ridge Drive and Lambert Road). In the mornings, east and west bound traffic to and from Falcon High School and Meridian Ranch Elementary School is unyielding. During this time, itís nearly impossible to turn left onto Londonderry. Considering that Londonderry Drive is the only southern exit to the expanding Meridian Ranch Neighborhood, this danger becomes a very real issue. Additionally, the majority of these vehicles traveling onto Londonderry are operated by young high school students who are driving straight into the blinding morning sun, unable to see cross traffic. I pray that El Paso County realizes the necessity of installing 4-way stop signs or left-turn signals at the corners of Rainbow Bridge Drive, Boulder Ridge Drive and Lambert Road before disaster strikes. The second intersection I’d like to mention, which is potentially the most dangerous of all, is at the corner of Stapleton and Hwy 24. Each morning and evening, dozens of commuters travel to and from Schriever AFB along this route. During the morning and evening commutes, Hwy 24 incurs very heavy traffic in both directions. Commuters crossing Hwy 24 must gun their engines and screech across the intersection, barely missing cars traveling 65 mph or more. Itís beyond imagination why there isn’t a sensor controlled traffic light at this location. Due to the very high speeds, the blinding sun, the often low-visibility fog and the potential for near-certain fatalities, this intersection is arguably the most dangerous in Falcon.I canít thank The New Falcon Herald enough for their outstanding reporting.
