Two Falcon School District 49 high schools competed in the Pikes Peak Athletic Conference cheerleading championships Oct. 29 at Sand Creek High School, and both walked away with first-place finishes. The all-girl team from Sand Creek and the co-ed team from Falcon High School each took first place in their conference.SCHS coach Lauren Stuart said that winning the conference title was something her team had never done before. ìIt was a big accomplishment to win league this year,î she said. ìItíll be our first banner in the gym.ìAli Malcom, the other head coach, and I started coaching here three years ago, and we feel like weíve really built the team up from where it was. We thought this would be a rebuilding year, but all our girls were ready to go.ìThe team gets along really well and itís like a family. We practiced through fall break. We have a different level of dedication.îStuart said the state cheerleading competition will be held Dec. 6 ó only the top eight teams will make it to finals. ìEveryone this year has a goal for winning state,î she said.
