Prior to the Falcon School District 49 Board of Education February meeting, the BOE held a ìFantastic 49î event. Teachers from Horizon Middle Schoolís Jostens Renaissance committee presented information on their progress to celebrate student achievement throughout the year.Caleb Gilbert, a 10th-grade student at Vista Ridge High School, told the BOE about the assistive technologies he uses at the school to support his academic success. The BOE recognized Gilbert at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Feb. 13, as he was about to speak to a group of teachers. They lauded Gilbert, who has a visual impairment, for excelling through technology.Connor Thomas, a 12th-grade student at Sand Creek High School, performed a piece he prepared on the alto saxophone. The BOE also recognized Thomas for his success at his Festival of Winds audition at Colorado State University Pueblo. His performance earned him an $11,000 scholarship from the universityís music department.Action itemsThe board unanimously approved the following:
- The withdrawal of the Trail Ridge Academy charter school application
- Revisions to personnel policies regarding staff leaves and absences to ensure compliance with current laws and regulations
- New course requests at Sand Creek High School to incorporate International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme honors classes at the ninth-and-10th grade levels
- Revisions to the facilitiesí small engine staff technician job description to facilities small engine-equipment repair mechanic and reclassification of the salary grade in accordance with the new job description
- A new policy for naming or renaming district facilities
