Crumbs and the trickle down effect

Remember back in the 80s when almost all the same names were running the country, our government gave us the “trickle down effect.” We were allowed to benefit from the richer getting richer and the connected getting richer. Remember how that benefited you?Today, we have the “crumbs concept.” Our government grabs our property and throws us crumbs to keep us at bay while the fat and sassy get fatter shoving the double chocolate deals in their pockets. Crumbs will not protect our properties. For more than a year, Coloradans have been fighting to keep property that is legally theirs, bought and paid for with a title to prove that ownership. Signatures are being collected and a resolution is waiting to be heard in the House to ask that an amendment to the Constitution be put on the November ballot. This amendment would protect our homes, businesses, ranches and farms from eminent domain for economic gain.Keep in mind the purpose of the citizen’s initiative or the resolution is to GIVE EVERY COLORADO CITIZEN A CHANCE TO VOTE for the amendment to STOP EMINENT DOMAIN FOR ECONOMIC GAIN. Sign the petition: fauths@earthlink.net 303-203-3132We had to take this route to avoid a veto by the Governor. Now we are being peppered with rumors about amendments to the resolution that would change language to help urban renewal authorities. If this happens, we will pull the resolution because urban renewal authorities and blight and slum and welfare do not – I repeat – do not belong in our Constitution; property rights belong in our Constitution.I can not even begin to give you the numbers of citizens involved, hours collecting signatures, hours lost from work, hours away from family, the level of stress endured and the properties lost or under threat of “taking” during these last months. We would like to say to some of our legislators: Please cut the crap with the rumors about the other party. If you work for the people, the people will vote for you. Smearing your opponents will not get you votes this year.We have heard numerous times and read in the paper more than once that property rights is a conservative issue. Please, can we talk? This is a people issue; it belongs to neither party; it belongs to the people. We are not talking politics here, we are talking property rights. We want our properties protected from eminent domain for economic gain.We say thank you to all the legislators that have been so supportive of the initiative and the resolution and our property rights. Thank you to all the volunteers. Don’t give in – we can get this on the ballot.Kathy and Tom FauthElbert County
