The Falcon Craft Fair held Oct. 25 was a success. The craft fair was the vision of Mel Sharpe and the community service committee at Curves of Falcon, owned by Kathy Kelley. Curves has held a craft fair several years, along with an annual food drive to benefit the High Plains Helping Hands Food Pantry. This year, wanting to make it a community event, they contacted the Exchange Club of Falcon and Meridian Point Church, and a partnership was formed. The committee limited the vendors to handcrafted items and hoped to draw more local vendors to the show. About 60 vendors participated. At least 25 people were involved in this project and volunteered about 275 hours.A special thank you to Ann Searle and the UPS store for printing all the posters and flyers and to Mel Sharpe’s family for making all the road signs and donating the tape used to tape off the floor booth areas at the church. About 300 people attended the craft fair and response from the vendors was very positive. Along with a check to High Plains Helping Hands Food Pantry for $1,000, four large boxes of toys and eight bags of jackets, coats and hats were also donated. The proceeds from this craft fair will benefit between 200 and 300 people who are served each month at the High Plains Helping Hands Food Pantry, owned by Jean Woolsey. Each year the Exchange Clubs of Falcon and Colorado Springs join together and hold a raffle to fund local child abuse prevention agencies. This year, the clubs sold tickets at Big R in Falcon. The prize was a horse trailer or $2,000. A drawing was held on the grounds of the Pikes Peak Community Center and the winning ticket belonged to Robert Palmer of Palmer Chiropractic. Dr. Palmer chose the horse trailer, which was delivered to him at his office by Exchange Club members Nov. 3. Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets and contributed to this worthy cause. For more information about the Falcon Exchange Club, contact Joe Bauer at 262-9222 or Jan Pizzi at 495-1288, and visit the club Web site www.falconexchangeclub.us.
